This is Little Truff here.

Roses a the most popular choice for birthday flowers but Chrissie, my Mum, likes a surprise.

She got one last weekend when the kids came home with a bouquet of flowers like flames of fire.

They are half red and half yellow – and grow on long green stalks. The colours really warm up the family room.

Guess what?

They’re called Heliconia bihai ‘Kamehameha’ after a King of Hawaii – but that’s too much for a little Cavalier like me to say. Heliconia is easier.

I really like them even if they don’t have any perfume.

Chrissie says they last for weeks in a vase – so she’ll be really happy with that.
