Elegant Amaryllis

The elegant amaryllis comes in made shades like this popular salmon pink one.
Hi, this is Little Truff speaking
My Mum, Chrissie, loves flowers – as you would have gathered by now!
From October on, you can guarantee that inside our house and out on the patio, there will be the most stunning lily of all – the amaryllis.
Originally from South Africa, it comes in many colours and doesn’t have a smell. The flowers are stunning as they come out in groups of four at the end of a long stem. This year Chrissie had a surprise one with SIX flowers in a group, not four!
She says anyone can grow them. All you need is a north facing site out of the wind which is free of the little black slug that eats their buds and stems.
A bit of fertilizer in early spring, enough water to freshen it up but not get soggy, and they virtually look after themselves.
My twelve year-old buddy, Leila, has this salmon pink one in her equally pink bedroom. It looks stunning – and so do the ruby red ones Chrissie has in the lounge. Gran Nelson like the white ones with purple stripes.
The amaryllis is available in many different colours – so you can take your pick!
