Anne Brian – Human Dynamo
Members of the Auckland Branch of the NZ Society of Authors welcomed Anne Brian, Director of the Auckland Writers’ Festival as their guest speaker this month.
The popular event first ran in 1994 when New Zealand authors were engaged along with overseas writers. Today, the annual event has a 6 day programme of 150 events with 35% of the writers coming from overseas. Music, plays, readings, poetry and other forms are offered along with workshops to engage people.
Five thousand students attend during the first 3 days. Both local and out-of Auckland pupils are subsidized. Every child is given a book as they leave, both as a memento of their visit and to encourage the writers of the future.
